A Salvo of Animal Cruelty Contents
February is yet to be finished and we have seen train of viral animal cruelty events in social media that felt like an artillery salvo.
We’ll summarize it for you: A teenager, initially claimed to be a ‘cat lover’ in his video but then suddenly landed a UFC kick to one peaceful sitting cat at the side of the street. He thought it was cool, well it was not. In other parts of the world, an elite French professional footballer kicked and slapped his own Bengal cat on Snapchat. He later apologize. All leads to the most wicked of them all like no other: Four grown Indonesian men burned a live dog while laughing and insulting in local language. The dog, covered in fire, running around screaming. At the end of the video one guy picked up a huge wood log and smashed it twice to the already-burnt dog. He then angrily said something towards the camera, while the poor hound yowling faintly to its slow, painful death.
That’s it. Now you don’t need to watch the videos. Or we guess, you watched them already since all of aforementioned events have gone viral. Okay, at least you are not re-sharing it, right? Good. If you are, delete it now.

Legal Aspects of Animal Abuse & Cruelty in Indonesia
Law Number 18 of 2009 concerning Animal Husbandry and Animal Health in conjunction with Law Number 41 of 2014 concerning Amendments to Law Number 18 of 2009 concerning Animal Husbandry and Animal Health has contained animal protection issues as stated in Article 66 Section(2) letter c.
The article states that “What is meant by mistreatment is an act to obtain satisfaction and / or profit from an animal by treating the animal beyond its biological and physiological capacity, for example, cattle barking”. Problems related to animal welfare are emphasized again in Government Regulation Number 95 of 2012 concerning Veterinary Public Health and Animal Welfare in Chapter III, especially in Article 92.
Being a good citizen requires a compliance to the law and regulation. All those laws and regulations are not to be broken. We the people have a general duty to obey the law because it is democratically decided.
