Lessons From Holywings and Canggu Community Online Feud

Another goofy Indonesian social media drama unfolded. But this time it has nothing to do with TikTok teens. Not three weeks ago, some beach dogs were intentionally poisoned dead and the baddies is still unknown even at the time of this writing. Somehow blokes from Bali’s Canggu Community dragged Holywings Bar to the crime scene. The feud short-lived, but there are few takeaways worth learning from.

When you debate on social media, anything small can quickly escalate into something big and long. But, to keep this article #short, we made it into points.

Accusations ≠ Truth

Beach dogs poisoned and the spotlights is on the new kid in town — Holywings’s new bar. People of Canggu loves dogs, they hated it when they poisoned dead. Canggu Community, the largest online community in Bali informed by ‘someone that knew someone’ that the new kid did it. No proof provided, and that is accusation. Holywings, shocked, knowing that people from Canggu Community accused them of things they are not doing based on ‘A said that B did it’. People jumped right on the bandwagon of hate, hence, Holywings Instagram profile flooded with angered animal lovers.

Well, some people will believe what they want to believe. Usually a small simple answer is the truth, and the truth is Holywings did not.

Bad PR

To minimize the damage, Holywings group released a statement with a dismissive tone on their social media. People hated it, said that the statement was ‘hiding something’ and raged even more. Turns out, the PR department took a wrong step, not that they ‘hiding something’. This misstep made Holywings a trend word on Twitter, since people thought they were lying.
All things escalated when celebrity lawyer Hotman Paris threatens to drag whole Canggu Community to the police, making everything worsened. Fortunately he didn’t. To us, it was an unnecessary move made by him. Holywings might want to invest more in their PR department.

A Good Ending

Both parties agreed to abandoned their ego, left behind all the grudges and fixing all the miscommunications. Canggu Community and Holywings group now collaborates and work with the locals in Canggu to bust the fugitive(s). Everyone appreciates this move. No one hurt, no property damaged, Holywings continue their development, Canggu Community is at peace again, yet, the baddie is still there running.
To us, it was all wholesome to witness and everybody’s watching should take example.

Well, this whole drama now has become a ‘feud for thought’ pardon the pun!

History is built on feuds. Luckily this one was not triggered any damaging real-world behavior. Nobody lose their lives, but the beach dogs of Berawa are! #StopDogCulling #StopAnimalCruelty
