Unpad Street Feeding Animal Friend background story and values.
Founded in 2021, Unpad Street Feeding Animal Friend is a Universitas Padjadjaran student initiative that focuses on the living quality of homeless street animals, promoting responsible pet ownership among students, and supporting the animal welfare movement in Universitas Padjadjaran and Indonesia.
COVID-19 pandemic hits our campus life. At that time, skinny cats and dogs were an everyday sighting since all the food courts — the place where these poor animals get their food were closed down due to lockdown and restriction. A group of final-year students realized something needed to be done. Then, Unpad Street Feeding Animal Friend started its engine in March 2021.
We are founded by a few undergraduate students from Universitas Padjadjaran (Unpad), Sumedang, Indonesia. Despite the small numbers, we aren’t tired nor afraid to get our hands dirty, whether it’s rescuing stranded kittens in the sewer or feeding them in the cold morning weather, and actively campaigning on the internet about the welfare of stray animals around us.
The very purpose of our existence is to provide better living quality for community stray animals, in the place we call home —Universitas Padjadjaran (Unpad). Our campus is home to not only humans but animals and any other living being. We believe that everyone should treat animals humanely, hence making us support the global animal welfare movement.
To achieve that goal, we have made friends with other like-minded organizations around Indonesia to join the movement on animal welfare. We partnered with NGOs, UMKM businesses, shelters, and other similar student-run organizations.
Our core values and commitment resonate with the 5 principles of animal welfare: Freedom from Discomfort; Freedom from Pain, Injury, or Disease; Freedom to Express Normal Behavior, and Freedom from Fear.
To broaden our audiences, we occasionally use the English language in our content. We understand the growing importance of English in our everyday lives and post-university life.
Unpad Street Feeding Animal Friend is an non-profit, strictly non-political initiative and run entirely by donation. Yet, our hands are always open for helps and donations from people like you.
